School Choice

​Most of the power of school choice is in the hands of the state government but school districts should have some control over this issue.  Currently the State Board of Education (SBE) has unchecked control over what your children are being taught.   There is NO actual oversight by the Governor or Legislature allowed.  Local school boards basically only have power to tax you and spend your money on facilities and salaries.  The school administrator implements the policies and curriculum mandated by the SBE.  Principals and teachers follow the orders of the Administrators.  Parents are not only given no say in what is being taught and how, also that information is often hidden from them?  It is the responsibility of the Legislature to break-up this ring of social engineering dictators and return the power of control to the parents in the local school district.  There may be situations where that will not work, but even then nothing should be kept hidden from parents.  We will also work to completely remove Common Core from Mississippi, by whatever name it is given, to return local control to schools.

All parents need to be given the freedom to choose the best education opportunity for their children.  Every parent should be able to have their child attend public, charter, private or home schools.  Any student that passes the approved exit exam should have the corresponding educational dollars follow that child.  Even parents of home school students should get a significant portion of those dollars if their child passes the standards.
